  • Hi All,

    my name's leigh and im an alcoho..... oh wait, wrong forum ;)

    first log entry, pretty exciting... smashing my log cherry right here! (mmmm cherries)
    I'm hoping that by forcing myself to maintain this blog i will be keeping myself honest, on target, and organised with my training/record-keeping as well as learning lots from other people's posts and hopefully making the occasional constructive contribution.
    apologies in advance for my unique style of slightly twisted randomness and gratuitous references to beer, boobs, fire, blood, and heavy metal \m/

    smashed the Petranek last night.
    got 4:30 - shaved 2:20 off my time in May '11 when i started out as a fresh faced neolithic-diet-challenged CF noob.
    pretty stoked to see such an improvement, however i would have to put most of the improvement down to kipping the pullups as opposed to struggling through the last few strict pullups last time.
    having said that, thats not to take anything away from my clearly increasing levels of awesomeness since starting at CFV, BOOM!
    as Scotty said: "this sh1t actually works"

  • 10/1/12 - 'CHIPPER'
    pretty brutal workout, which was gruelling at the time but extremely satisfying once finished.... kinda like the time *** insert inappropriate sexual reference here ***

    broke it down into tasty bite size chunks as per Mr Lustig's suggestion, which made somewhat of a molehill out of a mountain.
    scaled it back sensibly, 2 abmats for HSPU (which im only just really tackling), 40kg pwr cleans, and 30kg for the hi-pulls.
    finished in 23:29

    12/1/12 - DEADLIFT 3RM 
    been trying this for the last few weeks but each time was after doing squats 3RM.
    today started relatively 'fresh' and easily smashed my previous PB!!!
    prev PB was 105kg, tonight smashed through the barrier and ended up lifting 3 X 115kg, which i rkn was pretty good considering last week i couldn't get 3 reps at 107.5.
    was more charged after tonights lifting than a matador plugged into an electrical outlet after being charged with various criminal offences... felt eight kinds of awesome, most of which are imaginary and therefore too numerous to list.

    bring on the next deaddies session... might try to crack 120

    PS only second post on this log and already feel like this is a far more appropriate forum for rambling tirades about crossfit than annoying my FB friends (all 3 of them hehehe)

    Five rounds (for time):
    1x Press 90% of 1 RM
    1x Strict Pull Up
    1x Press 90% of 1 RM
    3x Strict Pull Ups
    1x Press 90% of 1 RM
    5x Strict Pull Ups

    think this took me about 12 mins, did strict pullups no band, and 35kg press.
    40kg felt too heavy in warmup, but 35kg was too light during the workout, so in hindsight i shlda gone with 37.5.... either that or just be more awesome and press 50kg
    press def needs work.

    14/1/12 - backsquats 1RM & L-sit
    mid-back felt tight (probably from deadlifts PB) so didnt push it on squats, worked Tech with Mike which was great.
    think i made some improvement with my 'squat wink' or whatever its called
    also just worked tech with L-sit, improved my upper body  position to more upright as i was leaning forward too much before
    really wanna get my L-sit so i can destroy my Lvl 1 and get a shiny new wristband
    my sexy long legs, big feet/shoes, tight hammies and weak-ish core are conspiring against me to make this difficult, but i will keep at it & reap the rewards when i can finally L-sit like a champ, just like i did in that boob-less dream the other night

    UFC Rio - pint-curls for time at bridies in brunny 
    (decent scotch fillet i might add)

  • hahahaha thanks Brodyn... my legs were made for kicking arse... they're like sniper legs, coz they're so long they can kick arse from long-range ;)

    wow, a week has flown by while i have kept meaning to get around to updating my log, amazing how time gets away from you.
    (must spend slightly less time hatching sinister plans for global domination, and more time on logging my awesomeness herein)
    knew i had to work on sat so smashed out 5 days straight, which is a first for me... pretty big week of workouts & rather warm so glad i got through & even pulled a backsquat PB outta my rectal cavity at the end of the week, so rather stoked \m/

    16/1/12 - worked clean/jerk tech at 40kg / 50kg, then practised L-sits & HSPU (shakes fist at L-sits, which continue to elude me, and are fast becoming my NEMESIS... would love to blame this on my 'sniper legs', however i fear this is more likely attributed to my poor core-strength, and tight hip-flexors & hammies.... mmmm ham)

    17/1/12 - filthy fiddy, scaled up, 39:11... not too bad considering 35kg push press and 24kg KB swing, but really wanted to compare to last fiddy effort which is hard due to up-scaling

    18/1/12 - kettlebell workout, with KB snatch, KB windmills, KB turkish delight... used 20/20/12 kg KB;s... pulled up with very sore obliques from windmills

    19/1/12 - upside down Fran-kenstein... 1st time ive done Fran RX'd (even though it was inside-out) took 11:08, really struggled, but then i guess thats the idea

    20/1/12 - back squats, new 3RM PB of 87.5... a 5kg PB... need to do more 5X5 volume on squats & deads every week to increase awesomeness in these areas

  • stupid formatting, copied & pasted WOD from CFV site & it stole a whole bunch of empty space which i couldnt get rid of for the life of me.
    would be good if you could delete comments, but doesnt look like its possible...  actually that would be handy in real life too... oops, i guess that slightly chubby woman WASNT pregnant, judging by her reaction of slapping my face after asking her... perfect example of when it would be handy to delete a comment.
    my ramblings are often long enough without a whole lotta empty space to make them even bigger.... thats what the inside of my brain must look like.... a few key functional connections... like the ones used to process food, boobs, heavy metal, and basic CF functionality... surrounded by as much empty space as an atom has relative to its electrons or some shit (i probably got that wrong, which i am blaming on said empty space)

    didnt plan on doing this wod so just had my trusty converse on, (but how could i resist the lure of Lustig, especially on his last class) said footwear proceeded to gradually shred the skin off the top of my 2nd toe on each foot which is slightly bent, thereby adding to my ninja mystique and surely increasing aerodynamics, but leaving me hobbling to the car post WOD.

    went away to port campbell for long weekend, 4 days of less than paleo diet, plus excessive quantities of ice cold beer consumed in the sun on the lawn/porch of a beach shack directly overlooking the pristine beach.
    plenty of trail running, surfing (attempts), swimming - yes i brought goggles to the beach, canoeing, yoga... and stubby curls!

    50 reps each, for time, of:
    Wall ball shots, 9kg/7kg
    Push-ups
    Lunges
    Ring dips (yellow band)
    Squats
    Pull-ups
    TIME - 21:30

    ring dips killed me & ate up a big chunk 'o time (mmmm, thyme)... gotta get my kip on right there, also felt a little sluggish from above references to putting bad things in my body.... oh wait, that sounded oddly sexual, thats totally not what i meant ;)

    looking forward to gettng food & training back on track after a sunny tasty drunken detour!

    BACKSQUATS 5 X 5 - 80kg 
    first session trying to get some good (hopefully) regular 5x5 lifting done
    want to try getting weekly 5X5 of squats, deads, and possibly cleans... but it seems hard to balance that with the regular programming... its a work in progress, and i think my goals need some careful attention so i can focus my awesomeness in one direction rather than the shotgun-style approach i seem to be taking.

    did all lifts at 80kg, had to bail half way through 4th set
    gotta keep those knees out & chest up
    was happy with effort, considering my prev 5RM PB was 77.5kg back in Sept, and that was only one set, not five of the best, so based on that my 5RM should be a nice little chunk heavier now.

    base of my neck / right shoulder is a bit tight today after lifting, but not too bad... probably to do with my poor form, and bad posture hunched over a desk downloading porn, err i mean doing work in the office all day

    note to self - try to keep these log entries short & sweet, you have a tendancy to ramble leigh, oh look, now you're talking to yourself, people will start to think you're wierd..er... just put a smiley face so everyone thinks you're joking :)

    sucked at broad jumps... even though i am tall (and devilishly handsome)
    probably a flexibility thing, not sure... fell right on my arse at first attempt, epic fail hahahaha
    scored 68 on AMRAP... one more rep would have been good... could have pushed harder in first couple rounds but then might not have got as many reps in later rounds, hard to know...

Zane told me to look straight ahead... i asked him to draw some boobs on the whiteboard in front of me so i had something to focus on, and he surprisingly obliged, i proceeded to look straight ahead for the rest of the workout ;) funny about that.

    felt good, didnt struggle enough through last reps, must go heavier next week, will try 105 or 110

    82.5kg... only one fail late in 4th set
    worked on my breathing / holding tight core & really felt this help keep my chest up coming up out of the squat
    one of my better squat sessions
    scotty & zane were there to spot me on the 5th set... zane said he'd grab my 'glutes' if i failed... i didnt fail but asked if i could still get that grope. he obliged... most action ive has in weeks ;)

    few days off training, busy moving into my bachelor pad, SWEEEET!
    new place has an approx 25m lap pool, so looking forward to incorporating some swimming back into my training, especially with whats left of the warm weather

    then L-sit & 9 ways to skin the cat, of which i could barely manage one
    got to 120kg deads... failed at 125 but prob should/could have got it, still not moving very well during this lift, always feel so uncoordinated in terms of timing straightening knees then opening hips.
    i keep thinking about this in two separate parts so i get the order right, but then i know this is stopping me move in one flowing motion, probably should do some slow work with lighter weights to learn me some muscle memory with good form
    sucked at L-sits & cat-skinning
    gotta try work on the L shit a few times a week as i really need to improve on this, still cant even get to the L shape at all, like not even nearly :(

    swimming
    first swim in the lap-pool at my new place, VERY EXCITED
    need to measure it but it must be 20-25m length
    just some cruisey warm-up laps for about 5 mins, then about 15 mins of interval work with 1 lap sprint, then rest for the same time it took to do the lap (18-20 sec)
    great to get wet, and do some different kind of training outside a sweaty box (hehehe)
    had the pool to myself, didnt even need my floaties!
    look out phelps!

    3 broad jumps for max distance
    SCORE - 50kg / 170cm / didnt time
    PC's felt ok at this weight, think my hip opening is good based on feedback, keep working on getting under bar quickly. felt like i did this well on a few reps and those reps felt great & easy!

    scored quite low, not happy even though i went pretty hard.
    would have scored much better if this workout had something i didnt suck at, like eating bacon for time or stubby-curls

    score - 74
    was reasonably happy with this, had an ok rhythm going, and was jumping to my heels fairly well
    i think being tall (and handsome) may be a disadvantage on this movement.
    awesome atmosphere in the gym on sat for this, so much yelling & good vibes buzzing around
    big thanks to Jess for epic judging & encouragement 

    hopefully the next games wod has stuff i'm good at, like dbl-unders, reaching things up on high shelves, and looking at boobs ;)
